Sweet Family Session, Lee’s Summit Missouri

I absolutely love it when a client and I are planning out their session and they say “I know of a place that might be pretty” and it’s somewhere new to me.  I always am prepared with some location choices, but finding somewhere new is always exciting and gets the creative juices flowing.  Showing up to this gorgeous location and finding beautiful little girls in poofy dresses is just the icing on the cake!  What a great session and awesome little family.

I absolutely LOVE big family sessions! I love it when kids and grandkids are all gathered together to spend time together mostly because I fully understand how difficult it can be to make that happen often. I don’t want a family photo session to be a pause from the family fun and memory-making though…I want it to be a part of it! I try and make these family sessions fun and relaxed and capture all of the love and good times. That’s exactly how this family session went and I loved seeing this family enjoy their time together and capturing it all!2021-05-11_0029.jpg

When people think about scheduling photo sessions, December isn’t usually the first month that pops into their mind (at least here in the midwest). But every year I end up with a few clients contacting me about scheduling a session in December and every year they end up turning out amazing. This absolutely gorgeous family was visiting from Texas and we lucked out with some great weather for photos. And I mean seriously lucked out because the very next day we had freezing rain and snow! I’m so happy it held off for a day and we were able to capture these images and have some fun!

Even though it’s usually one of the hardest parts of a session, going through a client’s gallery and picking images to share for their blog post is also often one of my favorites. It’s hard because I always want to post them all and have a hard time narrowing down the images, but it’s so much fun to relive the session. In true 2020 fashion, something happened at the beginning of this session that has NEVER happened to me before (so embarrassing, but I keep it real friends). I arrived to meet this family, grab my camera bag and instantly realize it feels too light. That’s when I remembered I decided to take may camera out and charge the battery a little at the last minute… just to be safe. My heart dropped. Luckily I have had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family for an engagement session, wedding, maternity, and extended family session in the past so I consider them friends and they were very understanding (and also, thank goodness our session location wasn’t far from home). It all worked out in the end and we got some amazing photos and had so much fun!
