What to Wear

What Should We Wear To Our Session?

This is the #1 Question I get asked by clients.

No matter what type of session we are creating together, what you wear is probably the most important factor in creating beautiful images. But it can also be the most difficult thing to figure out. Here are some super helpful tips and resources to make it easy and hopefully stress-free.

Color

For most outdoor sessions, especially Family, Couples, Maternity and Kids I prefer clients stick with a combination of earthy or jewel tones. These colors compliment each other but aren’t too matchy and “pop” against most natural backgrounds but still look like they belong in nature.

For groups of people, stick with mostly solids. I have a basic rule of only 1 person in a print per every 4 people at most but it’s ok for everyone to be in solids too.

If you are searching for the “can’t go wrong” boutique for women and girls, you can’t go wrong picking literally anything out from Joyfolie Boutique. Here’s a link. You are welcome!

Studio/Urban Sessions

If your session is taking place in the studio or in an urban location instead of a “woodsy” spot, there are a lot of different color options for you depending on the background and look you are going for. For example, I shoot a lot of High School Senior Sessions in urban downtown locations with bright colors of graffiti, and colorful doorways. For these sessions, consider more bright vibrant solid colors, or even all black or white. If your urban session isn’t super colorful or busy you could go with fun prints. For busy graffiti backgrounds stick with solids!

These colors can also work well in the Spring and Summer when Nature is more of a solid lush green and bright color POP!

If you would rather borrow than buy, I have a small but growing Client Closet that all of my clients have access to and can pick any items to wear for their session! You can check it out here.
