I have mentioned before how much I love when clients come up with new and original locations for their sessions. Well, this couple was full of great ideas! When we first planned their engagements session, they thought they might like to do it at their favorite local brewery and asked what I thought. Yes! That sounds adorable, I’m in. Then they changed their minds and were thinking a park near their house might be better. Great! It’s a park I have never shot at and the fall leaves were at their peak. Can’t wait. Then shortly before their session, another idea. Their front porch. Ok, I’m game. Although you never know what kind of backgrounds you are going to have to work with when arriving to clients homes for sessions, I liked the originality and the personal touch it would add. So I show up and it’s like the best of ALL of the ideas. They failed to mention they happen to live on what has to be the most beautiful street in Kansas City in the fall. Their home and porch were adorable. They brought out the “beer bike” that the bride to be made herself! I seriously can’t wait to shoot their wedding and see all of the amazing ideas they have for it!
This session was the perfect day. Perfect location, weather and beautiful extended family to photograph. I love photographing kiddos this age in family sessions because they keep things real and help avoid everyone looking too “posey”. You get what you get and sometimes the best photos are the ones just making sure everyone is happy.
When I create a blog post for a session, I carefully go through their gallery and choose a variety of my favorite photos that best represent the client, the session and the whole feel of the day. So for this session that means you pretty much get to see the entire gallery because I just couldn’t narrow it down. So fun, so colorful, so Kansas City!
I do a lot of family sessions. I also do a lot of sessions in the West Bottoms. I think this is only my second family session in the West Bottoms though. It was so much fun! I love this family’s style and that they stayed true to who they were for this session. So many times we think everyone has to be in khakis and sweaters for family photos but if that’s not who you or your kids are you wind up having portraits of strangers hanging in your home! Mom was also super smart and included some headshots in the family session. I get asked a lot of times if it’s ok if we do different combinations, etc. in a session. Of course! That’s just good business!
Sometimes clients become friends. Sometimes friends become clients. I am so grateful for both! This session was the latter. These fellow hockey and Lacrosse parents and good friends asked me to do an extended family session for them and of course I couldn’t wait to help out! Not only was it so much fun, but some beautiful memories were captured too.
