Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/Summer ’23

A little known fact about me…I’m obsessed with fashion. You definitely wouldn’t realize this by looking at me, because you can usually find me in some sort of typical “mom fashion” but I absolutely love it. I watch all of the fashion reality shows and follow several designers and models on social media. I’m completely fascinated with the creative process, the cohesiveness of a collection, the modeling and of course…the photography. So KC Fashion Week has been on my bucket list for a while, but I kept missing the application window for photographers. But this year I finally caught it in time and I was accepted! It was absolutely the coolest experiences I have had the opportunity to shoot so far! I got to see and shoot it all and get a behind the scenes look at all of the hard work and amazing talent it takes to put a show together! I got to shoot red carpet, backstage, the crowd (and let me tell you…the spectators brought their fashion game stroooong), and of course the shows. It was tiring and a lot of work, but once it was over I found myself looking forward to next season and hoping I get the opportunity to do it all again!

The Grace Family~ Studio Family Session

First-time clients are so much fun! This family was such a pleasure to meet and work with… so sweet and SO photogenic! Little guys weren’t too sure that this was a “smiley” situation and maybe thought we were all a little crazy jumping around an making noises at them, but they didn’t cry a single bit either and were so good, so I call that a SUCCESS! And what beautiful big sisters they have! So glad I got to meet this family and hope to see them lots more in the future!

I love that this gorgeous family thought to do a family session while their daughter was home from college, and I am so happy that I have this cozy space always ready for a last-minute session without a lot of fuss, walking (or getting those really white shoes dirty)! I also love the timeless look of a simple background for family photos. I’m so happy I got to meet this great family and hope to work with them again in the future!

As a general rule of thumb, good photos aren’t cheap and cheap photos aren’t good. There is a reason some photographers charge more than others. It’s expensive to run a legal business and provide the very best services to your clients. Professional gear, licenses, websites, taxes, studio rent, permits, backrops…whew! I always try to stay in the most affordable range I can because I think everyone deserves great photos, but obviously I have to make some money too. So whenever I can come up with an event or sale to help people save money and get great photos, I jump on it. This year I tried a “12 days of Christmas” special, featuring a different great deal every day leading up to Christmas. It was so much fun and so many people took advantage of the amazing deals, including this super fun and gorgeous family.

Their oldest daughter, Caroline was a gymnast with my own daughter, Marissa years ago…but it doesn’t really seem that long ago. They are such a sweet and fun-loving family and it was so nice to spend some time with them in the studio over the holidays for this great session.

The Bloom Family ~Studio Session

I can’t even begin to explain what a joy it’s been to be able to continue creating beautiful portraits for families and clients, even when the weather isn’t great or it’s not so pretty outside. My little studio has been such a blessing already and I’m just getting started! So many things I’m planning to add and offer and I can’t wait to get more involved and acquainted with the great little city of Oak Grove!

This beautiful family stopped by the studio for free costume photos at Trail For Treats and had so much fun, they came back for some holiday and family portraits! I’m so glad they did and love how their session turned out.
