Every session has a story. With some it may seem obvious…an engagement session is two people who have been dating for a while and are going to get married soon. But there is always more to the story. How did they meet?, what do they do for fun?, are they both excited for their session or did she drag him there…or vice versa? There is always a story. Sometimes clients share their stories and sometimes details come out during their session. Either way I always leave a session feeling honored that I was given a peek into my clients’ lives and trusted to capture a significant moment for them. I will be the first to admit I have a pretty terrible short term memory. When shooting large groups or wedding parties, I often find myself forgetting names almost immediately after they are given to me. But I remember my clients and I remember their stories. This session was special in a lot of ways. It was taken just before Mother’s Day and was the perfect tribute to the love between a Mother and Daughter. Lots of hubby/wife love too. It’s one I will remember for sure and hopefully a family I will get to see again for sessions in the future. Oh and check out the beautiful dresses my client designed and made years ago! As someone who has zero talent in that department, I’m super impressed!

I am so fortunate to have many clients and families that I have spent years with, capturing their memories and milestones and watching their families grow. Sometimes I do a few sessions with a family and then as the kids get older and lives get busier they get fewer and further between and sometimes I lose touch with them altogether. This was kind of one of those families. I had takend little Quinn’s newborn photos way back in 2011 and then 1 year photos and hadn’t seen them since. I was so excited to hear from his mom when she called to say they had moved out of state but were going to be back in town over Easter and wanted a family session with her husband’s whole family. Not only has Quinn grown up so much, but he also has a little sister and new baby cousin! Then:

There are a few last minute Senior sessions every year and I am always thankful for them. Certain types of sessions tend to happen at certain times of the year and I often end up doing a whole bunch of them in a short period of time and then none for a long time. I always enjoy a random session at a non-typical time of year when the weather, clothing, and scenery is all different. This was a kind of cold and rainy day but it worked out well for Cole’s Senior Session in the West Bottoms.2018-04-30_0001.jpg

Being an “On Location” photographer in the midwest means that January through March tend to be my “off season”. With fall being right before that which is my craziest photography season, it is usually a welcome break. Apparently that was very true this year because after those last few sessions I seem to have really clocked out. I just realized I never even blogged a couple of sessions. Glad I remembered because this was one of my favorties and it would have been a shame not to share it. Everything about this little family was picture perfect. It was lightly misting through pretty much their entire session, but they were troopers and you would never even know.2018-03-25_0001.jpg

Finally getting around to posting the last of my winter mini sessions. This is my wonderful friend Lauren and her lovely family. Not only is her family super photogenic but they own the unbelievably gorgeous land that they were nice enough to let me use for these mini sessions. I love that so many of my families lately have been including their furry babies too. They are an important part of the family! Kona was as great of a model as the rest of her family…just not for quite as long. 😉
