There’s something so special about backyard weddings — the intimacy, the personal touches, and the way love feels right at home. This beautiful wedding in Atchison, Kansas, was no exception!
It was one of those classic Kansas days — incredibly windy and full of sunshine — but nothing could stop the joy that surrounded this couple. From start to finish, their day was filled with laughter, family, and meaningful details that made it uniquely theirs.
One of my favorite moments was when the bride surprised her grandmother by walking down the aisle wearing her grandmother’s wedding dress.
Since both the bride and groom work at the local YMCA, we couldn’t resist sneaking in a few fun photos featuring the iconic YMCA dance — with the help of several of their guests who also work there! It perfectly captured their playful personalities and the community that brought them together.
After the ceremony, I packed up to head to the reception when I realized I had a completely flat tire. Thankfully, this amazing wedding party came to the rescue! A few of the groomsmen didn’t hesitate to jump in and make sure I (and my camera gear!) made it safely to the reception. They even changed my tire — talk about going above and beyond!
Through the wind, laughter, and a few unexpected moments, this day reminded me exactly why I love photographing weddings like this one. This couple shares such a sweet, genuine kind of love — the kind that makes you believe in soulmates.
