Blue Springs Family Photography: The “H” Family

Even though it’s usually one of the hardest parts of a session, going through a client’s gallery and picking images to share for their blog post is also often one of my favorites. It’s hard because I always want to post them all and have a hard time narrowing down the images, but it’s so much fun to relive the session. In true 2020 fashion, something happened at the beginning of this session that has NEVER happened to me before (so embarrassing, but I keep it real friends). I arrived to meet this family, grab my camera bag and instantly realize it feels too light. That’s when I remembered I decided to take may camera out and charge the battery a little at the last minute… just to be safe. My heart dropped. Luckily I have had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family for an engagement session, wedding, maternity, and extended family session in the past so I consider them friends and they were very understanding (and also, thank goodness our session location wasn’t far from home). It all worked out in the end and we got some amazing photos and had so much fun!

Blue Springs Fall Family Mini Session: The Sweeney Family

I love fall family mini sessions. They are proof that you don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to get some great family photos to update your frames and cherish for years to come. I also love working with little ones and how spontaneous the session goes. I have found that trying to force them to sit in one place and smile at the camera only works for a few minutes and after that you are going to get tears instead of smiles…so we go with the flow and let the littles dictate where the session goes. In this case it led to a sword fight, tickles, and snuggles.2020-11-02_0020.jpg

Gymnastics Photography, Blue Springs, Mo ~Dragons In The Woods

I wear many hats. The ones I am most proud of are the ones my children have placed on my head and end in the word “mom”. As a “gymnastics mom”, I was so sad to see this competition season cut short. These girls practice year-round, some for as many as 30 hours a week. They leave school early, miss extra curricular activities, parties, and events. They have calluses and “rips” (the skin actually rips off of their hands) and bruises. For all of this they get typically less than 10 meets a year where they get to show off and (hopefully) be rewarded for their hard work and amazing achievements. This year that was only 4 meets. I’m a “fixer”. As soon as a problem or dissapointment presents itself, my brain starts working overtime trying to figure out how I can fix it, or at least make it a little better. I couldn’t fix this but as a photographer I could give them a day in the spotlight. I could show the world (or as many people as social media will allow) how beautiful and amazing they are. It was hot and the day was long, but there was a lot of laughter and fun. I photographed girls doing what they loved more than anything. I photographed sisters, friends, teammates, role models…family. This was one of the most fun and rewarding sessions I have ever done.

Blue Springs, MO Family Photographer: The P family

Finally getting around to posting the last of my winter mini sessions. This is my wonderful friend Lauren and her lovely family. Not only is her family super photogenic but they own the unbelievably gorgeous land that they were nice enough to let me use for these mini sessions. I love that so many of my families lately have been including their furry babies too. They are an important part of the family! Kona was as great of a model as the rest of her family…just not for quite as long. 😉

Blue Springs, Mo. Maternity Photographer: Daniel and Stephanie

When I received the news that there was a baby on the way for this wonderful couple I literally squealed. I have worked with them several times before and not only are they always a pleasure to photograph, but Stephanie has wonderful ideas and not only brings her own props…she makes them herself! Talk about a photographer’s dream! Mostly though, I was excited that I would get to see them frequently to capture the many milestones of this wonderful journey that they are now on. This is one lucky baby! Can’t wait to meet you little one!
